Currently we have 1 reader & 2 lectures with PG degree holders & 1 with Ph.D. qualification. Faculty have very good Academic profile.
The department has been member of various academic committees like sport, Anti ragging, Grievance, Attendance , cultural etc and staff has involved actively in their respective committee:
This year we have 92 students in the SYBAMS class in which there are 26 Male & 68 Females. Most of them are from middle class & Upper middle class families from various states of India. The selection of the students is through common entrance test conducted by Dr.D.Y.Patil University. The medium of teaching is English & the students have very good command on the language. The students are highly efficient in academic as well as extra curricular activities.The syllabus is based basically on CCIM format, but department has created a creative ,more applied revised syllabus exclusively for Dr.D.Y.Patil University and updated time to time to make more towards Excellency ,with unique & interesting aspect students point of view, applied aspect of modern pharmacology has been included.
Modern Teaching methods in practice other than the lecture method
- To develop better interest in the students some study related Entertainment programs are conducted like quiz competition, debates, Herbal cross-words.
- Student’s oral presentation and group discussions
- Teacher s seminars, presentation through OHP Machine & LCD.
- Visits to other institute, pharmacy museum, other regional and non-regional botanical herbal garden, and standardization units in other pharmacy,
- Photographs of medicinal plants and DVDS, permenant plant tissue slides are shown.

- Well –developed, Modernized Departmental library with 50 books
- Computer has an internet facility which is a good source for global information and particularly the herbal research

- Central Library for other subject related books, magazines, journals, newsletters, souvenirs etc.
- Authentic Herbal garden in campus. (with 207 medicinal plants species)
- Over head projector.

- Video clippings to teach for Identification of plants
- Dry and wet medicinal plants specimens in departments all throughout the year
- Charts on subject related topics
- Our Practical Laboratory is well equipped with instruments to perform certain standardizations test and detection of adulteration of herbs.
Average Success rate of Department is 85%
Total number of Deparmental Library books are 50 which is according to Departmental need. Every year department organized a visit to various herbal garden all over India which help students to identify the various medicinal plants & their botanical structure with their medicinal value.
One International & 31 national seminars/ Workshop has been attended by our departmental faculties.
The thrust areas in Research of Department:
An extensive Research is required for the subject on Literary, Drug and Clinical Level hence the following researches .
Areas have to be worked upon
- Study on Mishrak Ganas,Anupana,Bhaishajya kala etc
- Study on Single drug therapy
- Authentic Identification of medicinal plants
- Standardization and adulteration of medicinal plants
- Pharmacological Activities of medicinal plants
Details of ongoing projects and projects completed during the Last five years.The department has taken a project this year 2008 on ‘Identification on Medicinal Plants in Dr D Y Patil Colleges Campus’ to get Authentic identification of medicinal plants in the campus
“Phytochemical analysis of Kataka” an article was published by Dept of Dravyaguna in Dheerghayu International in 2006, Page no. 28 -31.
Plan of action of the department for the next five years
- Plantations of medicinal plants,
- Visits to schools, offices etc for providing information regarding importance of medicinal plants and Ayurved.
- Procuring certain rare species of medicinal plants in the department as well as herbal garden.
- Conducting educational tours to different regional parts of for study many medicinal plants species and regional
- herbal specialities.
Total 5 ROTP ( re-orientation programmes) are attended by faculty.
